Scalp Micropigmentation for Men and Women
Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is the perfect solution to thinning hair. It is a highly advanced method of cosmetic pigmentation, which creates the appearance of hair follicles on the male or female scalp. This can be to give either the appearance of shaved or short hairs, or to add density to thinning hair. It is achieved by strategically placing colour pigments into the skin to replicate the follicle base on the scalp. Using the 32- shade colour system we can find the right density to use to add a visual improvement in the specified area.It is perfect for male and female pattern baldness, scarring and alopecia. Female hair loss can be due to the menopause, hereditary, or telogen effluvium. This usually follows a physical or emotional trauma, for example childbirth, a bereavement or simply years of pulling of the hair.
Men and women of all ages have found SMP to be the solution to cover or fill in thinning hair. Thinning hair can result in a wide undesirable scalp area showing through the hair. SMP replaces the lost density resulting in the appearance of an even full head of hair. The initial treatment gently blends the implanted pigment with the existing hair, increasing the appearance of dense hair growth. The procedure requires 2-3 sessions to achieve the desired result. There are usually 2 weeks between the sessions.
Scalp Micropigmentation for Hair Transplant PatientsHair transplant surgery often leaves a scar or scaring that can be easily covered with SMP. It is an effective concealment of FUT strip scars, FUE (follicular unit extraction) scars and historic plug scars. Tiny follicle size dots of pigment are added to the area to conceal the scars. The procedure requires 2-3 sessions to achieve the desired result. There are usually 2 weeks between sessions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a consultation required?
Yes, a consultation is required and will evaluate your stage of hair loss, analyse your hair density and assess if and how we can meet your expectations.
Are consultations free?
Yes, all our consultations are completely free of charge and without obligation.
Why am I losing my hair?
For male pattern baldness, the biggest reason for hair loss is a hormone called DHT (Dihyrotestosterone), which damages the hair follicles on the top of the head, but does not affect the hairs on the back and sides of the head.
For female pattern baldness, scarring and alopecia. Female hair loss can be due to the menopause, hereditary, or telogen effluvium. This usually follows a physical or emotional trauma, for example childbirth, a bereavement or simply years of pulling of the hair.
Can this treatment be used to create the look of micro hair for a receding hairline?
SMP can create the look of micro hairs or shaved hairs in the frontal line. You have to respect the limitations that lowering the hairline brings though. If we work in front of the receding line you will not be able to grow your hair long. You have to commit to shaving your hair every 2-3 days on average, to maintain the SMP looking natural and blending in with your own hair growth.
I had SMP a week ago and the colour has faded a lot. I am afraid it is going to disappear. Is that possible?
It is completely normal for the colour to fade after the first session. It will need 2-3 sessions to achieve the final result and in some cases additional treatments are needed. This is due to the scalp absorbing different levels of pigment depending on the condition of the skin.
Does it affect the existing hair growth?
No. The SMP does not affect the existing follicles.
